A Riverside Shop That Thinks About Joints First

Aloneinthekitchen fabricates and installs stone and quartz countertops for homes across Riverside. Our shop is on Iowa Ave in the 92504 ZIP, and most of our work happens within about twenty minutes of it.

We are not the biggest outfit in the county and we are not trying to be. What we do differently is simple enough to explain in a sentence: we decide where the seams go with you, on the actual slab, before anything is cut.

Why That Is The Whole Job

Almost every countertop complaint we get called out to look at is a seam complaint. Not a chip, not a stain, not a bad edge profile. A joint sitting in the middle of a run where the afternoon sun catches it, a joint you can feel with a fingernail, a joint over a dishwasher that opened up in year three.

None of those are stone problems. They are decisions somebody made quickly in a back office because the layout that wastes the least material is faster to draw than the layout that puts the joint somewhere you will never look.

Slab yield matters, and we will tell you honestly when a matched joint is going to cost another slab. But the default here is that the joint gets placed for the kitchen, and the material cost is a conversation rather than an assumption.

How We Work

We meet you at the yard when we can. You look at the slab you are actually buying, not a sample chip, and we chalk your pieces onto it with the veining direction, the sink cutout and every seam marked. That is the one moment in the project when moving a joint is free.

Templating happens after the cabinets are set and levelled, using a digital template rather than a plan drawing. Walls in the older Wood Streets and Victoria Ave houses are almost never square, and a template taken from a drawing is how a top ends up with a gap at the back.

On install day the cabinets get checked with a laser before any stone goes down. If a run is out, it gets shimmed then, because a level joint cannot be created later out of a surface that is not flat.

What We Will Tell You Straight

A seam is a joint. It is not an invisible weld and nobody in this trade can make it one. In a dark uniform quartz it can be genuinely hard to find. In a pale surface with a fleck it will read as a fine line, and we would rather you hear that from us at the yard than discover it on your own counter.

We will also tell you when a repair is not worth the money, and when a remnant will do a vanity perfectly well for a fraction of a full slab.
